Tithes - Believing in God’s Economy Regarding Your Business!
We have all heard the Pastor speak on Tithing, right? For some of us, the Pastor is “preaching to the choir”, as they say, but for others it’s still a very hard concept to grasp hold of. Tithing is a gift, a privilege we have been given from God. Tithing is talked about in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. There are two scriptures that many only to in the New Testament scripture. The first, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”, 2 Corinthians 9:7, NIV. The second one, “Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”, Mark 12:17.
Yes, as Christians we know there are miracles when we obey God’s word, especially tithing as it helps the kingdom of God to grow. It is just as important to tithe from your 9 to 5 as it is to tithe from your business if you own your own business. If we are getting paid, we need to tithe at a minimum 10%, even if this is a “hobby”. Because God already gave us the job that allow us to function and keep a roof over our heads, to pay our bills, etc, we should not be hesitant to give God the 10%. It’s the very least we could do by being obedient to his word, by giving him the first fruits, as these scriptures reference:
The First Tithe was noted in the book of Genesis: “And he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand. Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything”, Genesis 14: 19-20, NIV
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops”, Proverbs 3:9, NIV
As business owners, we pray and seek God’s guidance on how to operate, to connect us with the right people and to bless our products and services. As God fulfills those promises, please don’t forget about those prayers and don’t forget how God blessed you. You are blocking a huge blessing, something you could have never thought of on your own by being disobedient to God’s word. Do not rob God! Below is a brief list of reasons to tithe not only as an individual but also as a business owner:
Tithing stores up treasures in Heaven instead of hoarding things on earth.
Tithe to trust God’s economy and trust God with your money, not what you see that’s going on around you.
God gave us the gifts and talents to make the money we make, so tithing is showing our gratitude towards God.
Tithe to discipline yourself and not become a glutton for riches or greedy!
God will bless you and bless you indeed! Don’t treat God like a genie in a bottle and only go to him when you need more clients or more revenue for your business!
I pray this blessed you and please share, like and comment! I can attest to the faithfulness of God through tithing not only from my 9 to 5 job but tithing the first fruits of my business revenue! God is most certainly good!
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty”, Malachi 3: 10-12, NIV
