THANKFUL

A simple word, but a word that packs a powerful punch!  This past weekend I volunteered at Feeding America in Milwaukee, WI.  Feeding America is a “national hunger relief organization” that is made up of more than 200 member food banks and food rescue organizations across the United States, including Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Feeding America is the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization.  You can read more about Feeding America here.  This experience was more than about being able to help package food for the less fortunate families.  It also was an opportunity to volunteer with people I may not have normally interacted with on a daily basis outside of this opportunity.

When we first arrived, we were given a tour of the facility which is HUGE! Everything was perfectly organized and the amount of food that’s collected from not only local grocery stores, but also manufacturing companies and food barrels around Eastern Wisconsin.  The goal for the day was to package at least 19,000 lbs of food.  Well, we exceeded that goal and was able to package 19,050 lbs of food which will feed between 11,000 – 13,000 families!  What a great accomplishment; we were all excited to have helped families that are less fortunate!

While we all can’t give the same amount of money or even the same amount of time, we can all do SOMETHING!  That’s what I’m thankful for, that God has blessed me to be able to give my time for a worthy cause.  I urge you to consider organizations in your area in which you may be able to give time or sow a financial seed to help others that are less fortunate.  Feeding America is a national organization, if you would like to know if there is an organization in your area and learn how you can contribute, click here.

Everyone have a Blessed and Wonderful Thanksgiving!
