The Power of Fasting in Conjunction with Prayer
Have you ever gone through a situation or maybe you are currently in a situation and it seems no matter how hard you try, the situation is not getting any better? Well, this happens most often when we try to handle things on our own; I highly recommend you pray about it. What’s that, you have prayed already? Well, if you have sought God’s face and it seems that the situation has not changed, it sounds like you need to begin to Fast along with Prayer.
I can tell you from my own personal experiences, that once I made a Sacrifice (Psalms 76:11-12, NIV) and made a Vow (Job 22:28 KJV ) unto the Lord and began Declaring and Decreeing God’s Word over my situation, that situation changed. You have to be willing to give up SOME THING for as long as God calls you to in order to receive the results God has for you, even if those results do not look like what you expected. Now, I can’t guarantee it will change in thirty minutes, an hour thirty days or sixty days. What I can guarantee is that it will change for your good and for God’s glory. As stated in my previous blog post, our Journals outline suggestions on variations of Fasting in conjunction with Prayer. You may go here to purchase our journals.
Sometimes the challenges or storms of life we face, can’t simply be removed through dedicated prayer time; especially through a season of Spiritual Warfare. During these times that mountain or stronghold will not move but by prayer AND fasting. Jesus said: “and Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:20-21, KJV). Many Christians focus on verse 20, because that’s where it stops in the NIV and other translations.
When fasting and praying, you must pray and seek God in order to know what it is you need to fast and prayer about as well as how long and what to fast from. Fasting can be done in many ways, below are just a few examples. By all means, please reach out to your Pastor or Ministry leader or other servants of God in your area to get extra guidance and of course by searching God’s word.
- Drink only water between 6am – 6pm (choose a 12hour time frame that works for you)
- No meat during fast
- No sugar or processed foods or bread during fast
- Eat only fruit and vegetables during fast
- Esther Fast: 3 days of no food, only water
- No social media or TV: YouTube, Instagram, Periscope, etc .
The bible tells us that we overcome the Devil by the power of our testimony (Revelations 12:10-11, NIV), so let the redeemed of the Lord say so (Psalms 107:2, NIV). AMEN!
